Brandon Mull Comes to Town!

Brandon Mull, who spoke at Redwood a year ago, has written the third book in the Fablehaven series, Grip of the Shadow Plague.  It will be released on Tuesday, April 22.  Brandon Mull is making an appearance at the Borders in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m.  He will be available to sign copies of his books.  I have read and thoroughly enjoyed Brandon ’s first two books in the series, of which we have copies in the library.

Library 101

The Thousand Oaks Library is offering a free program for middle school students called Library 101.  This program will be held Thursday, November 1, 4:00 – 5:45 p.m. and provides a tour of the library, teaching students how to find materials in the library and conduct research using various resources.  Registration is required.  Call 449-2660 ext. 204.

Thanks for the Donation!

I would like to thank student Michele Magnusson who won a donation of books for the library.  She participated in a horseback riding event at a benefit show and as a result was able to donate nine books from the Riding For Reading program.  There are three copies of each title: “Gallop to the Sea”, “The Horse from Nowhere”, and Brazen Horse”.

A NEW YEAR IN THE LIBRARY

The school year is off to a busy start in the Redwood Library!  I would like to thank the families that made donations to the library at Back to School night.  Almost $600 in donations will purchase approximately forty new books that can be enjoyed by all students.  Come to the library before school or during lunch for a recommendation of a good book!

National Library Week is April 15-21, 2007

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.  In 2007, National Library Week will be celebrated under the theme, “Come together @ your library”. Congratulations!

Redwood sixth grade student Julie Greiner was chosen as first place winner for the state of California in the grades 4-6 level in Letters About Literature, a national reading-writing contest. To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre explaining how that author’s work changed the student’s way of thinking about the world or themselves. Her entry was a letter to Shel Silverstein about the book “The Giving Tree”.  Her entry will go on to the national level. Congratulations, Julie!
