Congratulations!

Redwood sixth grade student Julie Greiner was chosen as first place winner for the state of California in the grades 4-6 level in Letters About Literature, a national reading-writing contest. To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre explaining how that author's work changed the student's way of thinking about the world or themselves. Her entry was a letter to Shel Silverstein about the book “The Giving Tree”.  Her entry will go on to the national level. Congratulations, Julie!

Author Visit

I am pleased to announce that author Brandon Mull will be speaking to our sixth grade students on Thursday, March 8, at 11:15 a.m.  The theme of the presentation is “Imagination can take you places.”  He will explain how a book journeys from conception to publication, share excerpts from his novel, and answer questions about the details of being an author.   His thrilling new fantasy novel Fablehaven follows the adventures of a brother and sister who discover that their grandparents are the caretakers of a preserve for endangered mythical creatures.
