Redwood sixth grade student Julie Greiner was chosen as first place winner for the state of California in the grades 4-6 level in Letters About Literature, a national reading-writing contest. To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre explaining how that author's work changed the student's way of thinking about the world or themselves. Her entry was a letter to Shel Silverstein about the book “The Giving Tree”. Her entry will go on to the national level. Congratulations, Julie!
I am pleased to announce that author Brandon Mull will be speaking to our sixth grade students on Thursday, March 8, at 11:15 a.m. The theme of the presentation is “Imagination can take you places.” He will explain how a book journeys from conception to publication, share excerpts from his novel, and answer questions about the details of being an author.
